Abstract

Knowledge management is an essential element to guarantee food production at the local level. Through this process, all the knowledge and practices necessary to guarantee food safety are recognized and stimulated, recognized as one of the biggest problems to be solved today. Based on this, the Strategic Support Program for Sustainable Food Security in Cuba, SAS-Cuba, opens an extraordinary opportunity for the mobilization of the intersectoral institutional matrix involved in the ‘cycle of food sustainability’ in Cuba; as well as lessons and learnings from previous projects related to the topic. This Country Program is made up of three projects, one of them being “Strengthening the Integrated Knowledge Management System (IACS) for sustainable food security in Cuba- CONSAS”; Among its purposes is to improve the articulation of actors in selected municipalities in an Integrated Knowledge Management System (IACS), based on sustainable and resilient food production. To this end, a total of 6 municipalities in the Villa Clara and Santi Spiritis provinces were studied and the existing situation in each locality was characterized by the variables: Training, Innovation, Technical Assistance and Agricultural Extension. The objective of this work is to show the local capacities to guarantee an adequate Knowledge Management (KM) at the municipal level, based on food production.
