Abstract

Compaction, that constitutes a limiting edaphic factor for plants, is measured with equipment that delimits resistance to penetration. This work was developed in 2015, with the objective of determining the effect of sugar cane management on the compaction of a Pelic Vertisol in Cristino Naranjo Experimental Block, at the Sugarcane Research Provincial Station of Holguin. An experimental design of divided plots, with three treatments and four sub treatments was used. Compaction was evaluated to 30 cm of depth and the necessary labors of decompaction were determined. In Burning of crop residues the biggest compaction was found nearer the surface and with bigger thickness than in Elimination of crop residues. When crop residues are kept, the increment of compaction tends to become stabilized after 10 cm of depth. In Keeping of crop residues fertilized organically decompaction of soil with traditional cultivation is possible. Crop residues with organic mineral and mineral fertilizations and without fertilizing, do not attenuate the effect of compaction, and the same agro technical labors as when the crop residues are burned or eliminated, are necessary.
