Abstract

This paper is aimed to present the results of the exploratory study on the development of the program “Agricultural Communitarian Mechanization” in the province of Manabí, Republic of Ecuador, particularly in the cantons of Portoviejo and Santa Ana, carried out since 2014, and that contributes to the modernization of the rural sector of the territory, mainly small production units. The methods used in the process of exploratory study were: analysis-synthesis, unstructured interviews, direct observation and survey. During of the study it was found that in these cantons tractors are underused or not used, due to not to have ploughs for primary tillage of the soil. The on-site observations on the conditions of the parking of the tractors indicate that this aspect has not the proper attention, which is very important to preserve the working capacity of the agricultural machinery during the periods when they are not working. The level of knowledge required for operate and effciently maintaining a tractor or other farm machines is poor, requiring the urgent organization of theoretical and practical training courses.
