Abstract

Biostimulants based on seaweed extracts may be an option to improve plant germination and growth. The objective of the work was to evaluate the effectiveness of the application of seaweed extracts in the germination and growth of vegetables of economic interest. For its development, two experiments were conducted to know the effects of the product with different dilutions. The first experiment demonstrated the potential of this product in the germination phase of vegetable seeds (cabbage, chard and lettuce); In the second experiment, this experience was carried out in the field with the best results obtained in the previous experiment to evaluate the influence of the product on the growth and development indicators of vegetables. The results showed that the treatment of the seeds with a 1% solution of the extract stimulated the germination and growth of the radicles of the vegetable seeds under study. In addition, its growth-stimulating effect is evidenced by the increase in height, number of leaves, length, width of the leaf and yield of the vegetables under study when using the 1% dilution of the product.
