Weed Control Through Robotics

Abstract

Weeds represent potential losses in crop yields, and significant advances have been made in the development of robotic systems for weed control and detection methods based on artificial intelligence. For this reason, in this work a bibliography review was made of the methods developed and applied in robotic systems for weed removal, which are divided into four principles of general operation: mechanical, chemical, thermal and electrical, as well as a description of their advantages, inconveniences and requirements for proper operation. Understanding the current research landscape is important for the future development of new technologies. The use of computer vision has allowed the development of selective tools and the detection of weeds in complex environments. Guidance systems with GPS or sensors can give autonomy to weeding robots, which with the incorporation of artificial intelligence and especially deep learning could become more robust and adaptable to various crops and open fields, thus improving control weed.
