Evaluation of Irrigation Strategies for Soybean Cultivation Using DSSAT-CROPGRO Model
Main Article Content
Abstract
Currently, large-scale national soybean production has a strategic importance for the sustainable development of the country. However, water is the main limiting resource, and then it is essential to develop irrigation strategies that allow maximum water productivity. In this work, DSSAT crop simulation tool is used to determine the optimal planting date for soybean, Jupiter cultivar, in the South of Mayabeque. In addition, through DSSAT-CROPGROW-Soybean model, the effect of several irrigation strategies on the yields is studied. Four levels of irrigation amounts: 5 mm, 10 mm, 15 mm and 20 mm were applied, varying in all cases the content of water to which a new irrigation starts: 85 %, 75 %, 65 %, and 55 % of the field capacity, for the layer between 0 - 40 cm deep. After simulated the virtual experiments and analyzed the results obtained, it was chosen as the optimum planting date July 15th and as the best irrigation strategy the one that applies 10 mm of water to 85 % of the field capacity.
