Abstract

Previous works on fractal fragmentation are based on the fragmentation of air dried or pretreated initiators after field data collection. In the present work it is analysed the problem of deriving fractal fragmentation parameters from soils under Retraction Limit. Undisturbed soil samples were collected from a Fluvisol at the 0 - 10 cm soil layer and 16 sampling points per soil treatment. Four different soil technologies were used and a random experimental design was performed. Half of the soil samples were treated with irrigation water after retraction limit was reached. After that, they were fragmented. The other soil samples half were air dried during three weeks. The estimated fractal indicators were compared with their air dried counterparts for the same soil, horizon, sampling points and soil tillage technology. The results indicate the usefulness of performing the fragmentation process under Retraction Limit conditions even if different soil technologies are evaluated.
