Abstract
El origen de las aguas, los procesos físico–químicos que las afectan y su calidad son parte de la información que aporta la caracterización hidroquímica de las aguas para hacer una mejor gestión de los recursos hídricos. Se estudiaron seis fuentes de abasto de aguas para el riego (tres superficiales y tres subterráneas), de la cuenca del río Naranjo en la provincia Las Tunas, a partir de sus concentraciones de aniones y cationes minoritarios, el pH y la conductividad eléctrica. La clasificación de las aguas se realizó siguiendo los criterios de Shchoukarev y mediante los diagramas de Schoeller-Berkaloff y de Stiff se representaron los resultados. Las aguas subterráneas son más mineralizadas que las superficiales, los iones que predominan son bicarbonato, cloruro y sodio, de ahí que las aguas que prevalecen son de los tipos HCO3-Cl-Na o Cl-HCO3-Na. Las aguas estudiadas no son aptas para el riego y son un peligro potencial para la alcalinización de los suelos.
