<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">research was to identify, within a set of biological, psychological, social, and functional factors, which are most closely related to polypharmacy. An observational, cross-sectional study was conducted in the Internal Medicine Department of the "Dr. Carlos J. Finlay" Central Military Hospital, from May 2023 to May 2024. A sample of 109 patients was taken. To identify within a group of biological, psychological, social, and functional risk factors for the development of polypharmacy, a univariate analysis was initially performed using the X2 independence test. The OR was calculated for the multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression with dichotomous responses. The results showed that the average age was 72.2 years. The most represented age group was 60-69 years (43.1%). Positive results were found for the variables age >70 years (OR 1.4), cognitive impairment (OR 2.44), female sex (OR 2.1), frailty (OR 2.3), depression (OR 1.23), and poor self-perceived health (OR 4.12). It was concluded that polypharmacy is a significant problem in people over 60 years of age and that risk factors should be assessed in the biological, psychological, social, and functional spheres.</dc:description>
Resultaron positivas las variables Edad >70 años (OR 1,4), deterioro cognitivo (OR 2,44), sexo femenino (OR 2,1), fragilidad (OR 2,3), depresión (OR 1,23) y mala autopercepción de salud (OR 4,12).
